A
Resident's Guide to Trash Collection, Bulk Pick Up & Recycling
We have been the contractor for the town of Plainville
for the past 50 years. If you are a new resident in town, call the
publicworks department in Plainville at 793-0221 ext.214 to find
out which day of the week your trash will be collected. We pick
up trash every week and recyclables every other week.
Trash
1. Trash must be put out the night before your collection
day and placed at the curb. We start early in the morning. There
is a town ordinance that prohibits trash from being placed at the
curb more than 24 hours before collections and requires the removal
of all empty containers from the curb within 24 hours after collections.
2.
Materials that are acceptable for regular trash collection includes
garbage and food waste, mixed residential refuse and branches and
brush tied in bundles and no longer than 4 feet in length.
3.
All trash must be in containers or bags no larger than 35 gallon
capacity and cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. Larger capacity containers
will not picked up.
4.
Materials that are unacceptable for regular trash collection include
dirt, rocks, all construction materials, roofing materials, tree
stumps and hazardous waste such as explosives, pesticides, radioactive
waste, bulky waste and leaves and grass.
Bulk
Waste
1.Hazardous waste products will not be
picked up by the contractor. The town has a hazardous waste collection
once per year. Call the town hall for specifics.
2.
Special bulky items will be picked up twice a year during April
and October. Check this site or call the town hall for the definite
dates.
3.
Bulky waste includes mattresses, furniture, appliances, lumber,
lawn mowers, T.V's, etc. A complete list of acceptable materials
are published in the newspapers the week before collections.
Leaves
and Grass
It is a state mandate that leaves and grass cannot be burned
so they cannot be collected with your trash, they must be recycled.
Contact the public works department for schedule of leaf collections
and solutions for grass clippings.
